Indoor Air Quality Testing

Indoor Air Quality Testing

Indoor air quality testing or indoor environmental assessments, is a fancy term for mold or allergen assessments.   Many people suffer from some form of irritant that makes it difficult to breathe, or causing their nose to run and eyes itch inside their home or workplace.  Some times an individual smells a musty odor and can not identify where it may be coming from or what is causing the smell.

Indoor Air Quality Testing – License

In indoor air quality testing, it is important to note that everyone has a different tolerance or level of sensitivity to many different things. This is where the certified assessor becomes important, note Florida law requires proper licensing for person collecting samples. Experience and level of certification in indoor air quality testing plays heavily on the outcome.

Like a detective, we need to try and find out what seems to be the source of the irritant. This part of indoor air quality testing is sometimes is not as easy as it may seem. There are many irritants, mold spores, cat and dog dander, cockroach’s, dust mites, mouse and rats and latex protein.  These are know as VOC's.

Indoor Air Quality Testing – VOC's

Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC's) are common gases given off from new home furnishings and many personal items.  Examples of VOC's might be foot ware, hand bags or synthetic blend clothing. The most common VOC in indoor air quality testing is from certain species of mold spores. Mold spore gases can pass through walls being detected by smell but not by spore count during air sampling. In cases like this it may be necessary to remove base boards, window trim or look into the interior of walls with specialized equipment to find the source of the problem.

Once a problem is identified by indoor air quality testing, the proper course of action and approach can be determined. The course of action can be very simple or as complicated as requiring remediation by a licensed and certified mold remediation company. Our company can oversee the mold remediation company.
